I have been an attorney since 1976. After graduating from law school at the University of California, Berkeley (Berkeley Law), I engaged in a general business practice in San Francisco, California for ten years. In 1986 I directed my law practice to serving the health care industry, first as a partner with the health law boutique Weissburg & Aronson, Inc. and subsequently with the nationally recognized law firm Foley & Lardner LLP.  In November 2008 I retired from Foley & Lardner LLP and began a two-year hiatus from the practice of law. I returned to private practice at the beginning of 2011, with the opening of my law office in San Francisco, California. The majority of my practice continues to be concentrated in health law.

My practice has spanned the entire spectrum of the health care industry, including representation of hospitals and health  systems, physicians and medical groups, academic medical centers, long-term care providers, HMOs, and public entities such as health care districts and county governments. I have represented these clients in all types of general health law projects as well as a wide variety of transactional and regulatory matters, including complex joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions.

For ten years, from January 2009 through December 2018, I served as a member of the Board of Directors of Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto, California, a Federally Qualified Health Center and state-licensed community clinic providing primary care services to underserved and uninsured populations in the Southern San Francisco Bay Area. I was pro bono counsel to Ravenswood for almost a decade before joining the Board and I continue to provide these services. Ravenswood’s mission is to improve the health of the community by providing culturally sensitive, integrated primary and preventive health care to all, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status, and by collaborating with community partners to address the social determinants of health. In 2011 and again in 2015, at the request of the then-serving Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Trinity Health, one of the largest health care systems in the United States, I served as Interim General Counsel at Saint Agnes Medical Center, a Trinity Health sponsored, 436-bed general acute-care hospital in Fresno, California that is widely respected for its clinical and service excellence.

I received a Juris Doctor degree from Berkeley Law in 1976 and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.) in 1970. In 1971 I was awarded a lifetime secondary teaching credential from the State of California with a specialty in Mathematics.  I am a member of the California Bar and the Bar Association of San Francisco.
